Owing its name to the way in which its long dark leaves curl up when seeped in hot water, the renowned Oolong or Black Dragon is a light-bodied tea with a mild flavour. With half the caffeine content of black teas and the antioxidants of green tea, our Dragon’s Eye Oolong tea captures the best of both worlds. Revel in the flavoursome taste of this premium blend in the early morning or afternoon.
Details
A semi-fermented tea, Oolong or ‘Wu Long’, means ‘Black Dragon’, as its leaves resemble curled-up black dragons which ‘awaken’ in hot water. Another story credits Wu Liang with ‘discovering’ the tea. Legend has it that Wu Liang was returning one evening after picking tea, when his eye was caught by a river deer. He slayed the deer and returned home, forgetting the tea until the next day. By that time, the leaves had started to blacken (oxidise). Worried that it might have gone bad, yet not wanting to waste any tea, he dried it by heating. Upon drying the tea he found it to have a unique flavour, and Wu Liang or Wu Long was ‘found’.
